Your nails are short
If your nails barely extend past the fingertip, the elastic base works very well without adding weight. No length needed for a beautiful result.
The nail is flexible
If your gel polish chipped quickly with other techniques, it is often because the nail flexes under stress. The elastic base follows that movement — which hard gel does not.
You want a natural look
The base adds no visible thickness. Up close, your nails look natural — but color is applied close to the cuticles and wear is 3 to 4 times longer than regular polish.
Your wear is generally stable
If you don't experience frequent chipping or breaking, overlay is more than enough. No need to strengthen what already holds well.

FAQ — base overlay
In some cases, yes, if the nail is naturally dense and stable. But with significant length, stress increases: a more structuring material may be preferable. Overlay works best on short or moderate-length nails.
At FÉNIX NAILS, our overlay lasts 3 to 4 weeks on average, depending on regrowth and hand use. That is longer than in most salons thanks to dry preparation, close-to-cuticle color application, and the right material choice. A well-timed refill reduces the risk of lifting.
Yes, it is possible to move to a more structuring material at your next appointment.
It is possible, but an adjustment period may be advisable: after a very structuring material, the nail may be more sensitive to stress. The specialist will guide you to minimize the risk of chipping.
