Frequently Asked Questions

All about the method

Russian manicure is a cuticle preparation technique performed dry, using an electric file with adapted diamond bits. Unlike a classic manicure where fingers are soaked before cuticle cutting, dry work allows a more precise gesture and a cleaner finish. Color is then applied as close to the cuticles as possible (about 0.5 mm), producing a result that stays neat longer — on average 3 to 4 weeks instead of 8 to 10 days.

Duration varies by service. A Russian manicure without color takes about 50 minutes. With overlay and color, expect 1h50. For a full gel strengthening with color, the session lasts about 2h15. This includes cuticle preparation, material work, color application, and finishing. We never rush the preparation, as it determines the quality and longevity of the result.

When done correctly, the technique preserves the natural nail. Damage that some clients have experienced elsewhere almost always comes from removal — forced removal tears layers off the nail. At FÉNIX NAILS, removal is done with an e-file using adapted bits, layer by layer, without forcing. We never use a spatula aggressively. The nail surface is prepared with a chemical primer, not deep filing.

Safety is central to our protocol. All metal instruments are sterilized in a Class B autoclave after every client — the same standard used in medical offices. The sealed sterile pouch is opened in front of you at the start of the session. Files, buffers, and sticks are single-use and discarded after your appointment. The e-file is used with adapted bits at the appropriate speed and angle.

These are two very different approaches. Japanese manicure is a natural nail treatment: polishing with silica powder, nourishing with beeswax, no color or gel. The result is a shiny, nourished nail. Russian manicure is a cuticle preparation and finishing method using an e-file, followed by overlay or gel strengthening and gel polish color. The result is a reinforced, colored nail with 3 to 4 weeks wear.

Overlay uses an elastic base that follows the natural flexibility of the nail. It is ideal for short, stable nails: it smooths the surface and gives a very natural look without visible thickness. Average wear: 3 weeks. Gel strengthening uses a more structuring material with architecture work (apex) to distribute stress. It is better suited for fragile, flexible nails or nails with length. Average wear: 3 to 4 weeks. If in doubt, book gel strengthening — the technician will assess your nails on site.

We are at 152 rue Lamarck, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, steps from Montmartre. Metro Lamarck-Caulaincourt (lines 12 and 13), 3 minutes on foot via the rue Lamarck exit. The salon is open 7 days a week, from 10:00 AM to 7:15 PM.

At FÉNIX NAILS, a Russian manicure with overlay and color starts at 60€ (1h50). Gel strengthening with color is 70€ (2h15). These prices include the full Russian manicure, adapted material, and gel polish color. No hidden fees. The only exception: removal of work done at another salon (+10€, as it requires more time).
